I can say this with total assurance to a new pipe smoker; don't get a big bowl, a churchwarden, or a bent pipe. They add nothing to the experient, are fragile, costly, and are a pain in the ass. And don't touch those chinese metal-bowled things with the brair paint jobs. They are for weed.
I've always like codger blends. Carter Hall is my favorite by far, and PA is a close second.
