construction wise you want a bare minimum of stitchdown (clarks desert boots) to prevent shit like pic related. GYW is the most common construction in the welted market but keep in mind there are low quality GYW like in thursdays where the ribbing (part that connects the insole to the welt) has completely sheared off leaving an unrepairable boot
look to cut in half pics/vids: there's nothing advertising can hide
be aware of advertisement: brands like thursdays spend more of their budget on advertising than the quality of their materials/constructions, you'll see elements of that ITT attacking other brands like calling them tranny heels without actually addressing the quality of the boots
