Church's IMO. I've looked at literally everything out there. Their shape is the best. Pointed, but not comical. This angle makes them looks little goofy tbh, but check out the top, side and on foot views. [only photo I have].

Allen Edmonds are very nice quality, but they're much more expensive outside the US. At that price point there are probably better options. For Americans, they are a good choice. [I'm americunt btw]

Church's best models are excellent, but you have to be more careful as they vary a lot in quality by model. You want something fully leather lined [not partially linen] and cut from full grain leather. Online research will reveal their quality dropped a lot since they were bought by Prada, but most of those complaints [partial linen linings, use of "corrected" grain leathers] are invalid because those practices were already in place before the buyout. You need to know a little about leather and shoes to get the best from them, you can't just blindly buy [true for many brands, though].

A third option is Crockett & Jones. Another made in England brand like Church's, they are high end and comparable in price. I don't have as much experience with these, but their rep is top notch, just watch out for the same things I mentioned regarding Church's. I am pretty sure Allen Edmonds uses full grain on everything, not completely certain, it's been a long time since I've looked into them.

Also I stay away from 'authentic' leather soles because they wear much faster than older leather soles did [according to the oldfags] and they are VERY slippery on icy surfaces. Most of the high end brands offer rubber soles that offer much better mileage and grip, yet they can be replaced and restitched when they wear out, just like a leather sole.
