helmut lang used protective elements in some of his collections, so that might be worth your time (might be in a different vein to what you're thinking entirely though. never seen the chain/scale stuff on the market but there's stylists in possession of some of it so it's out there somewhere. there's also fw99 which combined protective functions and elements of articulation from biker gear and astronaut suits to create some really incredible clothing.

but like everyone has already said
it's entirely impractical, heavy, loud, guady, gauche, expensive
it's also especially unlikely when again people are beginning to move towards more practical options
and you will look like a LARPer

The Deepti stuff I've seen at Hlorenzo is amazing. Especially all the garments that use silver. Such beautiful stuff.

In an ideal world I'd have a CCP overlock coat and Jeans. The Tornado zip boots I used to own were great too. Made of absolutely superb leather.

Commes and Yohji are solid choices too, but the silhouettes don't complement my body type to the point where I'd want a closet soley made of those pieces.

Its pretty trite to say, but Lang is amazing. I've never felt a closer tie with a garment then with Lang garments. Perfectly made, subversive when you want it to be, but can be worn in every environment or situation.
