bitch everyone knows you're new af. you just autistically scrolled the archives; namedropping old trips and going "hey everyone, official oldfag here" every chance you get hasn't convinced anybody. literally everytime an old name drops by you appear out the woodworks and try to act like you know them and they literally never fucking respond to your dumb ass. it's a fucking anonymous imageboard, why are you trying so damn hard?

>super dumb
hardly. "taste is subjective" is an incredibly hard to defend maxim that crumbles the second its put under the lens. Tell me, where does your taste come from, if magically isolated from your environment. Is it genes? Is it something deep down in your heart? Your god given soul? Just because we come from different cultural backgrounds and experiences that precludes the possibility of true objectivity in something as ambiguous as the arts does not suggest the only alternative is total subjectivity. There's a middle ground, retard. Taste is /somewhat/ subjective, but also externally informed. A child could see that, if the nigh-religious maxim wasn't grounded into them repeatedly by popular media - funny, you received it from the same memeplexes informing 'your' taste.

I'll be going to Japan at the end of the year, or early next year. Apart from looking at some stores from iconic designers like the ones mentioned in the OP, I want to find out about independant brands or less well known designers. I don't really care what 'genre' it is (streetwear, workwear, runway stuff etc); is there a registry or something that I can read about brands and find their physical locations?

That's a dumb article, it's trying to critically engage vetement's irony by commenting on the class of people sporting their clothes.

Vetements isn't being /worn/ ironically, the label's design incorporates elements of irony, appropriation etc. Which, again, is nothing new in fashion, as the article alludes to with Goscha, another contemporary engaging in a similar practice.

An example of wearing an ash ra tee ironically would be incorporating it into a kraut/psych rock inspired fit, or one deconstructing the era's look. And their imagery and sound is itself in engagement with psychedelic rock imagery, which itself involves heavy appropriation (ie the s/t's egyptian motifs, the logo's 'groovy' font etc) with varying degrees of irony.
