Did I say it was the stock strap? It was an aftermarket rubber, same as I put on a couple other watches before ditching them. I deal with elastomers and chemical compatibility as part of my job. Genuine rubber straps will get brittle eventually if they are exposed to high wear conditions and certain common chemicals. There are of course alternative elastomers that can be used, but a majority of watch straps are a variation of generic SBR.
