Thrasher had a little street cred because there were two major skate mags back in the day - Trans World Skateboarding (REEEEE NORMIES) and Thrasher, the outsider sorta mag. They cursed and catered to the Street Skaters,, the kids who were starting shit and getting chased by security, whereas TransWorld and the like were for the park rats. So they are, IMHO, riding on the wave of those early 90's Onions.

The other stuff... well, you gotta think of marketing. There's a point at which a certain ubiquity begets the potential for a reboot of sorts, within the streetwear market that is... Current Year. These old brands are echoes in the minds of emergingly independent consumers, and it makes sense to grab a hold of that real estate and those pre-existing impressions for the sake of re-packaging and re-marketing an existing brand as a more fashionable option.
