Like, I feel like so many young people from back then worried so much about being "authentic" and not being "posers" that it actually went full circle and people felt they could only listen to the "right" music to be a part of a scene. It's really ironic. I don't think commercial interest necessarily determines whether something is good or not either. Either way, authentic or not, this scene was not healthy, and if I had a kid who wanted to be a part of it I'd be genuinely concerned especially if it was a girl who could get groomed by some Marilyn Manson/Dahvie Vanity manipulative abuser creepo.

If you are around my age, and you probably are, the youth music today probably just doesn't resonate that much with you. And it shouldn't, it's for a new generation. That doesn't mean it's not authentic though, the kind of enthusiasm I see for these newer musical groups is very real.

I don't really think they have subcultures anymore. Gen-z really seems to value individuality and just being the best version of you. I like that. There are different aesthetics but not really subcultures, at least not like before. Everything seems like it's more on a gradient. I honestly don't see much cybergoth anything on Instagram. Neon colors are very much liked, expressive makeup too but full on PVC club wear, no way. And I don't think it will. Streetwear is more accessible and "cool".

I'm surprised it still exists honeslty, for the most part it's just not for me anymore. I like stuff like Aphex Twin now and I think that direction would be the best for these musicians in order to avoid turning into washed up rockstars.
