Anything bigger than 35mm will be more expensive because it's considered a good modern size and therefore more desirable. Believe me 35 or 34mm is more than enough, in my opinion even better for a dresswatch. It's not just the diameter, the proprtions are just as important. A smaller watch with a bigger dial/thinner bezel will wear larger than its size would indicate. The dial layout also makes a difference. Longines Conquest Heritage is a good option for a modern watch with vintage looks and is 35mm now that I think of it. You can find them on chrono for around 700, just put in a notification for the model and one will pop up within a month. There are probably a few on there now.
