Don't cut your hair for three months. Simple as that. It will suck. It will look bad. You will crave a haircut. Go three months. Do a diy trim job yourself if you need to. Then go three more months letting the trim fill out into a more downward style. Be sure to wear lots of hats and be patient with it. Once the choppy bits stop sticking up and poking, you ride it out. Let it cover your ears, eyes and neck. Once it gets to about three inches all around, keep going! You will only feel better after this. By the end of the year, you will have 5-6 inches all around, then you can see if you really like it. That's the key to long hair, sucking it up and making it work. There's a point where it just clicks and starts to look good.
