I also prefer the wider brimmed styles, especially also with less tapering along the crown of the hat. The smaller trilbies are often a little too tapered and narrow brimmed for my liking, making them a bit too dysfunctional for the sun, although that is not always the point of wearing a hat, as people still do wear bowlers and top hats seriously, sometimes.

For your consideration, fedoras, porkpies, and trilby hats, as well as their straw equivalents, could look jazz if worn with nice enough clothes, but /fa/ seems to frown upon very traditional headwear on a regular basis. I would suggest that if you look like you know how to handle it properly, it's fine, yet it represents a personal, yet very apparent characteristic in public, if you are willing to take it up. These hats are mostly representative of jazz music's early stages, and not as much of the contemporary scenes, despite somewhat of a resurgence within recent years.
