Well, to make an example of my own, I wear one of my lambskins that I consider my beater when skating, hiking, and climbing decently often. It gets roughed up here and there, but generally in good condition, I just moisturize the leather and use leather restoration product when it looks particularly rough. It's got about 2.5 years into it and with the way it's holding up, it looks like it might get another 3-4.
