My dad handed me down some Omegas that belonged to him and my grandfather and he also handed me a scratched up quartz Seiko that I wear all the damn time because it's a great watch.

Shinola is garbage and that watch will be in the trash in a few years, but not because it's quartz. A good quartz watch will last just as long if you bother to take care of it. I'm still wearing the same automatic Omega and quartz Seiko my dad wore when he was my age. And the quartz one costs much less for maintenance, needs servicing less often, and keeps way better time.

Arguing about the inherent superiority of one type of watch over another is dumb because they're both good, and if you really wanted to argue that then quartz would win anyway.
