The commodifying of "geek culture", the rise of hipsters, and the proliferation of the internet simply democratized and stratified most, if not all, of what were once fringe subcultures. It's no longer a matter of which mall store you go to, because now everybody knows the kind of things that your kind do and talk about.

The lines have been bluured so much, that we're at a point where previous social rejects like weeaboos and furries are now just as fluent in Twitter and Instagram memes as most normies.

As far as I'm concerned, the future of youth subcultures lies in the realm of politics.
