I have the SBGR071 and I'd say this:
>movement better than COSC and with a borderline ridiculous power reserve
yeah it's pretty nice but imo the 80hr power can be had in a shitty swatch group eta-powercucked movement.
>A grand or two cheaper than the Rolex Boring Perpetual or the Omega (‘member James Bond?? ‘member the moon???) Aqua Terra
if you go second-hand it can sometimes be had for a third of the price of the OP/
>WAY better finishing and QC than either of those brands by a huge margin
Correct.
>only downside is you can’t flex to superficial thots and normies who could give a spicy fuck about horology
I mean sure it's not a RAWLEXXX but I've gotten more compliments on my GS than my Seamaster. That said, my Alpinist gets more compliments on both so fucked if you do fucked if you don't lol.

I'd say GS has 1% of the prestige that Rolex has. And among watch nerds probably about 10-15 percent of the 'prestige'. That said no boomer watch collector gives a shit about GS, all the better for me.

>Worse bracelet than an affordable Citizen
Never owned one, can't comment. But the bracelet is decent, it's the lack of a signifcant taper and very basic (though nicely milled and thin) clasp with 0 micro-adjustments that really lets it down.
>Design is a yawn fest
They can be pretty boring. Same with most of the big 3 swiss offerings; when you take autistic Confucian exceptionalism to 11 or Protestant-work-ethic-with-calvinistic-aesthetics you can end up with watches that imo, can leave you pretty cold.
The main reason I picked the SBGR071 was because it had red accents on the dial and feels like it has something that the rest of the non-snowflake range is kinda miissing. Funnily enough, it's the thing that annoys most GS owners about my model. Go figure.

>TL;DR Grand Seiko is fantastic but the criticisms are well grounded as well. GS make a fucking decent micro-adjust clasp already

yeah pretty keen to get it tbqh. i know it has no anti-magnetic stuff going on but it gives me white dial milgauss vibes
nice sla017, I've got a 62mas and I strongly considered one of these before I bought it but decided I needed something vintage

I think I'm gonna try and pick one these up next.
Inb4
>it has seiko on it 3 times!
Have you seen the modern submariner? doesn't bother me.
>I prefer the new Grand Seiko dial layout
fair enough, different strokes different folks
>why not get the spring drive?
2-3x the price and impossible to get serviced outside of Seiko
>what about the hi beat ones?
2-3x the price, and all the contemporary models seem fuck-huge. This one is 37mm.
>get a quartz grand seiko man
lol nah.
any other opinions welcomed though.

yeah spring drive is shit hot and that but I'm more interested in being able to service my watch at some point.
