If you layer properly you don't have to spend over $1000 on a jacket, you can wear a much cheaper coat and still stay warm
My Big Red isn't even my favorite parka to wear, that honor goes to this Canadian military surplus parka I got for $120. The liner is detachable and the shell by itself makes a great light jacket
