/fa/, is it bad form to go to a barbers as a guy with long hair if you just want a generic short men's cut?

One place I went to the guy was a proper miserable about it, saying he would have turned me away if it wasn't an off-peak time and that he needed the money, and that I should go to a hairdressers instead. But it hardly took longer than average and he did it just fine, so what the fuck?
