gap and jcrew are fine. understanding how clothes should fit and knowing what proper proportions look like are more important than where you buy from. being able to recognize when colors/patterns work together, and when they don't, is also more important than where you shop.

also, don't cheap out when buying shoes/boots. buy things that are versatile and work with many fits. black or white shoes, black or brown boots, black or brown derbies will cover just about every casual fit. don't fuck with other colors until you have your basics. and even then, think twice.

head to r/mfa and lurk. there is fine information for beginners there, which taken on its own can help you a lot. but recognize lots of people there funnel into a very specific uniform (just like /fa/ actually, except their memes are geared toward 25-45 year olds with money and jobs). pick and choose the specific brand recommendations, often times there is a more /fa/ option that will prevent you from going down the road of clarks desert boots.

anyway, good luck. the hard work is done. now's the fun part. take a class on color theory or just go to a store and play with setting different colored sweaters and shirts and patterns next to each other. or ask a sales associate for a second opinion. you only learn this shit by looking.

Is it an ok idea to have an earth tone and black wardrobe or should I focus on one or the other so when I dress it isn't too much of a drastic change in the color pallet? Or maybe I'm over thinking this. Also ID on this jacket and pants please.

uniqlo quality isn't good enough to justify spending $130 on 5 garments.

Instead, spend the $130 fewer pieces from higher quality brands with better cuts, for example: Brooks Brothers' oxfords, Norse Projects long sleeve shirt, Champion sweatshirt, and a Gitman/Pendleton flannel.

It will cost more but the materials will be more durable and you'll be more satisfied with the fit.
Uniqlo garments will be thin and will degrade quickly over time.

The brands I offered as variations aren't necessarily the best in each category, but I think they'll serve you well based on your price point.
