Why? It causes people to value a product more than they normally would. What Rolex is doing is making their product desirable not by directly advertising it but by creating a demand for the product by making it appear rare.

The unfortunate thing is, you can get a basic no-date submariner off of Chrono24 for 6.7k from Japan, lowest price right now. You can get one with a box for 6.8 from America. These watches exist on the secondary market; the only problem you have is making sure that it's genuine.

But then again I take the strategy that if I wanted one of these watches, I'd buy the cheapest authentic one and have it serviced by the makers. Given how my Omega came back (i.e. looking brand fucking new), there's nothing to stop the same from happening if you send a Rolex in for servicing if it has scratches and shit.

That being said, you have to factor in the price of servicing (let's say, 800-1000). If you put that on top of the price you're paying, you're still paying less by going secondary market + servicing as opposed to brand new + premium.

The only reason to buy new is if you plan on selling later on, but in that case you have to make the watch a safe-queen.

Well Anons, it arrived yesterday eve, but I haven't had time to do pics of it yet (so, stock photo). I'm happy as punch, and wore it to work today. I had to get the bracelet sized this morning though, as I have no tools to do it with properly, but at least the guy didn't scratch the shit out of the casing.

All pros, no cons, so happy as fuck. Soon I'll take pics. All the reviews are right though...the slide rule bezel turns like butter...

One of the compromises I had to deal with was the fact that the North American Nighthawks in black are simply not available; I'd guess they stopped producing them sometime in the 2014s or so. So, I had to settle for the Japanese version, which has no 'Nighthawk' name on it, and it has hour marker indices that are not full lume but 3/4 reflective metal and a lume square at the end. I would have liked the full lume, but these things happen.

Anyone else have an ecodrive? Good experiences? Bad experiences? As I've only heard excellent things, I'd be curious to hear some bad experiences....

Fair enough...it's definitely not suitable for work in a lab (I'd probably wear some kind of Iron Man digital or something). That being said, you really should wear it more often, even if it's just enjoying it around the house. If you're definitely not getting rid of it, then honestly...life is too short to keep things like that locked away. Wear it, enjoy it. Life disappears on us too quickly.

>pic is the only quartz watch I regret not buying...
