why do boot makers do this? it's not just Whites.

They feel pretty good, the heel + arch thing is not a meme and my feet actually DO feel better wearing them.
My biggest problem is that I was told to order half size down and they would be plenty roomy, they are in the toes, but the ball of my foot is too small. It's pooching over the welt along the ball of the foot.
It fits so nicely everywhere else. How much will lined Suede conform over time? I could get them stretched, I guess. I don't want to return them because they are the nicest 'dress' shoes I own.
The pic I was going to post turned out to be shit and out of focus, so here's the shoe regardless.

Should I? They're $300 right now. I don't know dick about White's Derbys and the MP last but I do know that I would like something a little dress-y. I know the MP last doesn't have the arch Whites are known for or the heel lift.
