It's to prove your point, right? The joy of being right, the thrill of tromping another man in debate. But it's making you angry. Your heart is beating a little faster and your adrenal gland is dripping cortisol into your bloodstream, forcing your heart to work faster and aging you, ever so slightly.
Over time this attitude becomes second nature, and the lines of a permanent scowl take root in your face.
Notice your own state of mind 20 minutes after a heated yet ultimately pointless argument. Can you feel the crash? Do you feel yourself coming down?
It's not important who's right and who's wrong. Truth is a flexible thing and quite often a mirror that reflects the beholder. It's subjective. Your truth is not his, and his truth is not yours. Perhaps the two shall never meet.
There's no reason to devolve here. It's a shoe, and people are free to set their money on fire or flush it down the toilet if they wish. You'll never berate somebody into forgoing their own sense of style.
