It's European/White style with no outside influence. Neofolk represents the more subdued side of this (not as many colours and patterns as you might see in a country's national dress for example). I see Neofolk looks as existing on a spectrum of earthy-sharp.

I find it interesting that for you identity and status is one and the same.

Identity is a fundamental bedrock for mental and social health. Reducing it to choice (thereby destroying positive inherited and group-related identity) is pretty much reducing it to consumerism.
