Didn't know the price or much else about them but that makes sense. Honestly the old NH35 into a nice overall design is about the best bang-for-buck for folks looking for divers that look the part, or other designs for that matter. As long as quality control is kept in order it's hard to get better value. The islander diver looks pretty clean. I've had fantastic luck with microbrand NH35 based watches to this point as well, so I'm not opposed to it.

So basically go with my gut and hold off on a chrono until I'm ready to jump on something like the speedmaster at a decent price? Was hoping someone would have a hidden gem. I do want to stick with automatic or at least mechanical. Have had cheaper quartz chronos and while they are reliable and fine on the function side (Seiko mecha-quartz and the likes), they just don't do it for me. Hamilton even has a few auto chronos that look really good but by the time I'm getting up near $2k, I might as well just grab the Omega.

I took the small (but successful) business pill years ago and the more I hear from my corporate friends the more content I am with the decision. That environment would wear me down quickly. Luckily I get to split my time evenly between the road and the office as well.

You're not wrong, compared to the standard industry lame the Casio is weak and short lasting. Having paid $38 for the MDV106 I'm not complaining though. This little guy on the other hand lets you check the time at 0500 the next morning still. Super lume is great.
