That's not me, sorry.

YOU GOT A PROBLEM MATE???

Also re: this thread

/fa/ is the best it's ever been, a bunch of decent posters just dipped but unless you've been here from day 1 like me you have no idea how far the board has come. People in this thread talk about /v/ level shit posting when you have routine general threads for legit fashion discussions pretty much glued to the front page. You used to have entire IRC channels dedicated to shit posting on this board. Go check out /soc/ there was a time when that board didn't exist and the type of shit on there used to get posted on /fa/. You can't even begin to imagine how bad it used to be.

There was a time when you legit had no designer fashion discussion on this board whatsoever. /fa/ has consistently improved with each and every year that's passed. It doesn't matter if you lost a few trips because a few trips do not make a real difference. I would rather have 100, 6/10 anonymous posters than a handful of 10/10 tripfags.

Look at me I've dropped the best posts on the board and it doesn't make the least bit of a difference. Because I'm only a handful of posts that are easy to miss. Meanwhile you have hundreds of anonymous posters who are posting day and night and shaping the face of the board. Tripfags don't mean anything do you hear me? You could have the most incredible trip in the world posting (me) and it doesn't change anything because my posts will be buried under the thousands of other anonymous posts that are gunning for the front page.

That means it is with the betterment of the anonymous posters that the board actually improves, not with the betterment of the tripfag population. And the anonymous posters improve exponentially every year, hence /fa/ improving drastically. Tripfags have never had anything to do with the quality of the board, besides goading the anonymous posters to better themselves.

Totally, however some days I do look back and think but holy shit was it entertaining.

There will never be as much tripfag drama as early /fa/. It's actually crazy to think there are people on 4chan who never experienced it pre-/soc/ the attention whoring was simultaneously infuriating and yet so incredibly satisfying and hilarious when people would band together to attack someone. It was like we all mutually bonded over hating the people who had to make a thread about themselves every day. Also what about the Miranda Priestly reveal? Nothing like that will probably ever happen again. The IRC channel was dope as hell too and I actually still keep in touch with 5~ or so people from there. I dunno it felt more like a community back then even if the level of discussion was much weaker.

I dunno I'm probably extremely biased because it was when I was first getting into not just clothes but music, film, art, etc. I actually almost trashed my apartment the other day because I majorly fucked up a sample I was sewing and putting on some music from /fa/ circa 2008 actually calmed me down enough to get my shit together. So it really is a period I look back on with fondness for all it's faults. I even kind of miss the people I hated.

Oh well, life goes on.

1. He has been very arrogant especially in regards to handling the press and how he has dealt with criticism, most people naturally don't like this.

2. He moved the atelier to LA. This is the biggest affront for all the oldschool industry people I've talked to, they feel this pretty much discredits the whole thing. For them you cannot make Parisian fashion anywhere else but Paris, the production and materials is already sourced elsewhere, the staff are already totally international. At this point the geographical location of the atelier is the last vestige of what makes a French luxury brand French.

3. While sales and media attention are way up there's also a belief that Hedi has pretty much failed to satisfy the already existing YSL customer, which was essentially much older and much more conservative. A lot of people consider this a major misstep.

4. With the above considered and the fact that the management has essentially given Hedi complete creative control, this raises the question: "Why not just give Hedi his own brand?". It's essentially this issue that raises people's ire even further, why make all of these sweeping changes and turn a classic brand with a strong identity upside down?

My interpretation:

1. I think he's handled the press in exactly the right manner, he has the rep, people know he can do good, he doesn't need to answer to anyone but the shareholders.

2. This was a hard one to defend but for me if Hedi makes better clothes in LA than in Paris, fuck everything else.

3. I don't know what to think about this, I find it kind of difficult to feel bad for the little old (and also extremely wealthy) ladies who will now need to find a new source of Parisian luxury. I think the idea of preserving the aesthetic of YSL like some sort of time capsule is kind of silly.

4. I've always liked YSL, I've never liked the menswear, I've always liked Hedi. For me it's perfect to now get both. I'd be just as happy if went to Chanel or Prada.
