The most obvious patterns I noticed on fashionable men wearing sweaters:

1) The sleeves are brought higher on the forearm. This makes your arms look more proportionate to your torso because the sweater sleeve ends up higher on the arm.

2) Exposed forearms look somewhat odd, so we add any sort of watch or bracelet to the empty space. A watch works nicely as pictured.

3) Create a border between your torso and your legs, a boundary between your sweater and your pants. Adding the belt creates this boundary. The sweater is moved up to show the boundary.

The results are immediate and the person looks more fashionable. Interestingly, if you look through photos of men in sweaters with outstretched sleeves and sleeves higher on the forearm, the men with outstretched sleeves give the impression that they prefer to keep to themselves while men with sleeves high on the forearm give the appearance that they're social.
