Collector's autism. I didn't have them before because I didn't have money so now I want to snatch them up when I can. To be clear, I do make an effort to wear what I buy. In the case of the yellow noise sweatshirt it's just because I want to wear it with pink jeans I have.

The last one I saw went for 17k yen and sold instantly.

I'm going to parrot what I read somewhere recently and say that there definitely is still quality and innovation to be found in fashion, but you usually have to go looking for it, buying from independent brands and so on. In that same post the author compared Loro Piana jackets from pre-LVMH and post-LVMH and found that they had cut numerous corners to save on production costs and so on. I'm far from a #menswear #workwear person but I think things are in a pretty bad state when even a premium item that isn't a 'premium athleisure' item like a screenprinted Balenciaga hoodie lacks details. If you tell me what types of clothing you like I can share some of the independent brands I know of.

That's kind of a vague question. I purchased my most recent grail a couple of months ago - A pair of CDGH+ jeans - so I don't really have one at the moment. If you're asking about Cav Empt items I like in general, I tend to prefer items from 2016 and earlier. Pic related is probably my favourite single item from them if I had to pick right now.

Old Cav Empt was poor and frequently had to work with factories that had existing patterns, so had to work within the boundaries of that pattern to create interesting items, resulting in interesting prints or applique on items that normally wouldn't be printed on. I own pic related, which uses a mixture of high density screen printing and embroidery for the graphics. One of the major things I've noticed is that newer Cav Empt only uses screen printing and doesn't, or rarely, uses embroidery or appliques. Many of the sweatshirts, and some of the hoodies, from 2013-2016 used these methods instead of just screen printing. It gives more 'depth' to the item. Most recent graphic prints, for tshirts as well as sweaters and hoodies, use low fidelity graphics that look like they were autovectored in Adobe Illustrator from a photo. Older graphics draw more inspiration from 90s and early 2000s computer generated graphics like what you would see on Jungle albums and rave posters.

The other thing that really bugs me about modern C.E is how they overdye such a huge number of items. I don't understand it but it looks like a form of pre distressing to me, which doesn't suit the brand at all.

Their design ethos shifted in 2017 or so. This link https://files.catbox.moe/o50q4z.jpg is to an 8mb image of all items released by them up until late 2017 or 2018, I don't remember. You can draw a pretty solid line after the red and blue gloves and say that was the cutoff point for consistent quality, and you can see it degrading a bit before that.

This video shows off the early style of the brand pretty concisely - https://vimeo.com/43713942

The rubber badge was only used sparingly in the first few years. It's become much more prevalent in recent years with hypebeasts buying plain hoodies just for the badge.

This collaboration was just embarrassing. When I first heard details of C.E shoes that weren't vans I was excited, then saw they were Air Max 95s

Very good, can you spot the other 2 fakes in that picture? I'll give you that it's a bit hard given the angle.
Pic related is the second jacket from the left.

On average, they've really, really gone downhill, while their prices have increased. I would be surprised if Sk8thing was still the designer of anything they produce.

Quit spamming this. The only similarities between the two are that they use(d) interesting prints and make references to music or movies.

Come on, man. I used to love Cav Empt but the past few years they've been getting worse and worse and are now just putting out increasingly safer and safer items with minimal effort put into their design. Not everything they put out has to have some weird graphic design on it, but pretty much everything they've produced for the past 2 or 3 years has just been the same silhouettes that they used to have, but overdyed and with no/subtle graphics. Even the tshirts have just all become more or less the same. It's really saddening to me to see a brand that I really loved change so dramatically - it's also worse because I never used to have the money to buy stuff directly from them, and now that I do, I don't like any of the designs.

Happy birthday though.

great samefagging
this brand was fantastic but their designs for the past few years are nowhere as good as they were in 2015 and prior
there are still a few gems that stand out, but the designs since then are alot 'safer' and have less appeal to their previous audience and more appeal to hypebeasts
i only own old cav empt for this reason

Any ideas what color of hoodie or sweatshirt I can wear under this? Was probably going to go with a boring color like charcoal or brown.
