Are there any /fa/ approved sneaker-buying guides?

Like, say, you find a sneaker being sold. How do you tell what quality it is? I mean, obviously the price is some kind of indicator, sure, but /fa/ shoes (apparently) come in all prices, as well as unfashionable ones. What if, say, the shoe isn't famous/discussed on /fa/, or some other reason? Perhaps there's a very intriguing sneaker you're thinking of getting, but you don't still have quite an understanding of what makes a good sneaker good versus a bad one bad? I mean, I could choose something that I like, but there does seem to be some kind of consensus (maybe in a broad sense) that some shoes are just better than others, and, frankly, I can't always pick out which one is the superior model.

Can somebody write a guide/point me to one that describes how to appraise a sneaker? It doesn't have to be an end-all solution, exactly, just something that I can refer to in order to understand what I'm looking for when I get one, other than just hype online. Maybe with some consideration for the rest of the fit.

Are Stan Smiths supposed to be so fucking narrow? I've already sized up, but the sole is the same size.

Are there any other good white sneakers that aren't going to be so narrow? I'm not looking for CPs because they have no arch support or anything, I want a more comfortable shoe.

If anyone else owns a pair of Stan Smiths, how's the fit on them? It feels a little like the side of foot almost hangs over the side of the sole, and I have no idea if that's supposed to be normal or not.
