But yeah, it's definitely possible to wear a tie casually without looking like an ass, not to everyone at least (because you can't please everyone, and trying to is stupid). You could look into punk/rock aesthetics for a sort of disheveled look, or the aesthetics of brands like Celine, Thom Browne and others that I can't be bothered to remember.
Honestly, a good first step is to just go to a nearby thrift store and grab some ties you like the look of, they're usually insanely cheap (I got three for five bucks last time I looked) and some of them are pretty good looking. Once you've got some you like, just experiment with them and look for inspiration until you find something you enjoy.
