For something that looks professional Grand Seiko, Tudor and Omega are good choices in the $5k range.

Personally I think the Aqua Terra and Seamaster lines are very legible and fit into most professional environments. Also, the Co-Axial calibers are a better proposition than the 9S movements you might find in many Grans Seikos. Frankly I think GS has been seriously slacking in their R&D and their auto and hand wound movements are getting very long in the tooth. I'd even say Omega has surpassed Rolex in the sub-$8k range when it comes to value proposition.
