I've had a Datejust from the late 1980s and now I have a modern Explorer. It's night and day in terms of robustness and daily use.
I agree that watch designs peaked in the 60s, but modern watches are far more resistant to chocs and magnetic fields. Steel bracelets and clasps are infintly better and feel more substantial.

Reeditions of old models are the way to go but they have to be made thoughtfully. IMO Rolex got it right with the 2021 Explorer, I wish they had the same design philosophy with the Sub and the GMT Master. The new Breitling Navitimer is also (almost) perfect.
