People regularly wear American m65s and sometimes American m43s. I think these could look decent if you have no patches and layer your shit well.

You're both half right. In all wars there is a standard colour specified by a governing body, immediately following which logistical problems will occur and the supply of uniforms and equipment can and always WILL vary on some degree based on circumstance, happenstance, etc etc.

Ww1 was not an exception, ww2 was not an exception.... there's never an exception. It's just not logistically feasable for all things to be exact, that is why anything that matches the defined military spec in broad terms gets issued.
