I copped a pair of the non-cxl version a few weeks ago, made a thread about it here.

Overall, preddy good, though I copped the wrong size dammit. Dunno if I'm going to bother getting the cxl version/another pair.

They are nice boots, and I think the version with the better, cxl leather would be really good but there are some construction issues =.

They're not quality control issues, just a question of materials used.

They're a blake rapid construction, and, apparently, this means that the insole and midsole quality on such footwear matters a whole lot more than it does with say, GY welt etc.

Peeling back the footbed, the insole seems to consist of 2 layers of stacked foam insert. I don't know if the real leather insole is under that or if that is it.

I could have sworn that I read somewhere on reddit or wherever that someone had emailed the company about their insoles and that they had confirmed that they used real leather insoles and not just the foam. I can't find this correspondence anymore, and perhaps it had to do with another company.

Whatever. They're good boots, and have that alden/viberg captoe look without the price tag and are pretty good with qc and are very comfy (the little ankle pullloop is fucking useless tho).

If you can get them cheap, they'd be a servicable boot, but if you're looking for something with some longevity to it, and you're on a budget, then give them a pass as I think those are iffy.

I got them retail in asia on impulse; should've just ordered them from singapore hmuse to get my right size but whatever.

Anyone in Oz looking for a pair of 7UK/8US/41 sized ones I've got a pair. Some RW IR's in a 7.5 US that are too small for me too (fucking me and getting one size too small all the time all because of impatience - ffs)

So I picked up a pair of the boots I chose for the OP pic on impluse this evening.
Went to the only shop in the city I'm in that sells a range of American boots like Red Wing and Wolverines et. al., and they didn't have any 1000 Milers in my size so I picked up these Chevalier Captoes for half the price of the 1k's.
There's been a lot of talk about these but not much info besides that reddit review. I understand that it's difficult to get a hold of them, and that you'd have to order them from Indonesia (2 months wait time) and the shipping is bumps up the relatively low price considerably, making them not as good of a deal.
So, seeing a pair here and now I bought them and wore them on the way home - already crushed a centipede with them (dammit) so they're already a bit soiled.
First impressions:
Don't think mine are the chromexcel version, as I compared them with a pair of Wolve 1k's that are CXL tand this leather wasn't as fine quality. However it's a full grain leather and shall suffice. I imagine that the CXL version would be much nicer.
Construction and finishing seems quite good. No errant stitches anywhere, everything seems pretty tight and in order. There's a pretty useless pull-loop on the back that's too small. So unless Indo fingers are smaller than normal I don't know what's up with that.

One thing that was immediately unusual was how cushioned the footbed is; I was really surprised, and they almost feel like sneakers. I read on reddit that they do use a cushioned footbed, but the insole is a proper leather one. It's not bad, just not what one immediately expects from a boot.

The shop I bought from ordered pairs with a vibram topy thing pre-attached from the factory, so that's good (I wouldn't trust most of the cobblers here to attach even a topy, especially after what they did to my father's lobb's), and leather soles don't do well on 3rd world grimy streets.
