Earlier this year, the World Health Organization removed gender nonconformity from it's list of mental disorders because knowledge gained from more research into the matter suggests it's not mental illness.

Telling people it's OK to be trans and respecting their pronouns? Where's the harm?

If you're transwoman, you have to put up with constant harassment when out in public and even at home through the Internet. You get used as a punchline in many forms of entertainment. There's also being denied employment. Then there's potentially being abandoned by your family and friends if you decide to come out. And if you don't come out, you have to live with depression/regret. I wonder if this could have anything to do with the suicide rates among transwomen.
