Sotd Caron pour un homme vintage

Wearing my Caron pour un homme vintage formulation. There is a big difference between the modern, vintage, and ancient formulations. The ancient formulation has a lot of animalics, maybe civet? It is also perfume strength, or maybe mine is just concentrated. The vintage has a great vanilla note. The modern performs better than the vintage but isn’t nearly as smooth.

I have the original. The new and the old are different. The newer version has an aftershave alcohol feel to it while the old cologne is a deeper vanilla and smoother lavender. Almost wears like an edp

Interesting, I’ll look out for a bottle. I have various bottles of Caron pour un homme and find the same thing. My vintage bottle of pic related is the strongest. But then I also have a second bottle like pic related that isn’t as strong. I think the one bottle evaporated into parfum strength and is yellow in color. Very strong and pleasant.

I haven’t tried 2022 pour un homme. I have a large 750ml bottle that is the newer formulation. It smells very nice. It has a sharp natural herbal component. The vanilla is natural and unsweetened. The older vintage formulations are imo better and can still be purchased relatively cheap if you look on eBay. The vanilla and musk are very natural and fuller than in the newer bottles. I have a real old bottle like pic related. This one wears like an edp when compared to the modern bottles even though it’s an edc.

I’m growing some lavender bushes too. It grows nice where I live. But the modern version has a nice lavender too. I think the vanilla and musk saw the biggest difference in reformulation. I also have pic related and it wears like a edp compared to the other two versions. Unfortunately my current bottle is missing some of the lavender top notes after close to probably 100 years. But I got the bottle for $10 so I can’t complain. The vanilla in it is very powerful and long lasting.

I think it’s better, at least it objectively has better quality ingredients. The modern one is a little fresher though. If you were going to blind buy, i think you made the right choice, especially a the price you got it at. Hope that it grows on you.

I’ll give you benefit of the doubt, just because I like oud minerale. But I hold my position that grey vetiver is overpriced. I heard Tom ford also made an overpriced Caron pour homme.

The performance isn’t great but to say it isn’t a skin scent after a couple of hours is a lie. I get some projection especially with body heat for more than a couple of hours. It’s cheap so I splash it on like a edc. Like you hinted at, the older formulations have a little better performance. But they do wear like edcs too. I have the old les belles, the 80s black cap, and the modern formulas. They’re all different but very nice.

The vintage has more vanilla and is more animalic than the modern version. The modern version is the freshest and most astringent. It’s good in its own right. The old vintage bottles like pic related has the most vanilla. I like the middle vintage and modern the most. The old vintage is nice too but probably not worth chasing down.
