Why do you think that no one takes it seriously? From a purely mechanical standpoint the digital way is (potentially not but often still) better in:
>precision
>energy efficiency
>reliability
>mechanical stability
>robustness
>cost
>quick readability
>multifunctionality
>representation of date
>and it theoretically has a whole world of aesthetic possibility if only the designers started playing around with types of LCD and custom structures for them
The only thing mechanical has is that it required more manual work and is more expensive.
I don't get it, make a body out of grade 5 titanium and add in some nice shapes or engravings on the back and it could be on par if not better.
I am legitimately interested, because if I honestly think about it, then the real autists are the mechanical buyers.
My father actually once, when I was smaller told me about the rich dudes that he would discuss contracts with would often times look at other watches and digital times when they had mechanical money-sinks on their wrists that cost as much as a nice house or a lamborghini.
