All fashion is a cry for attention/approval, even the most transgressive fashion offerings are intended to garner approval from people who like seeing the more commonly accepted standards and "rules" disregarded.

People who honestly DGAF actually DGAF and don't care about where their look falls in some gender based set of "rules" that are imposed on clothing. Rules that are historically so arbitrary that if you wear some historical mens fashions designed for men you'll be accused of dressing like a woman or wearing "womens" whatever, and you dont need to go back to the era of powdered wigs and high heels and lace collars and cuffs to do it (pic related).
It's only recently that men have had the freedom to seriously NGAF and not have their lives ruined for it, the way women have for quite some time.
Some people clearly still do GAF and want desperately to get approval for "shocking" others who care, but people like that almost always end up looking silly regardless of their sex, and are so overexposed now that it happens far more quickly.
