That's kind of what I end up doing, relieving areas underneath so that higher ones can bend down to reduce overall height. Here's a WIP image that shows the base layer. Some higher parts will sit mainly above the base layer and extend out and down to fill the gap where her shoulders are. This keeps the overall height under ~3 layers, which is about the limit for how much cardstock I can stack in one place before it hits the hour hand. There are supposedly high-hand versions of NH35 movements specifically for accommodating thicker dials but I can't find them anywhere for sale from resellers, and I doubt TMI/SII would have minimum order quantities below like 5000. So while that would save me a lot of headaches it is unavailable to me.
