The only x-factor here is that you will have a spectrum of denim "thicknesses", very cheap jeans will be made of a very thin denim, even though it is strong in a tensile sense, the cost is that much lower because it's less material needed. But wrangler jeans are quite thick and still cheap. Because they specialize in jeans and workwear, their cuts are not the most "fashion-forward" obviously though.

Other items such as metal-framed sunglasses, can be made very cheap, with cheap materials, but if you drop them they will break. Because the important points, like where the rims attach to the bridge, will be welded cheaply with minimal contact. Whereas a high end steel-framed sunglasses, will be constructed to last.
