I do accept you could maintain that "clothes are just clothes", but that's an extremely reductionist approach to quite a complex question. Fashion does not exist in a vaccuum, the designers concepts, influences and emotions often play a pivotal role in fashion, and yes, I maintain that by ignoring that and simply focusing on the aesthetic appeal, you are getting an incomplete understanding and appreciation of the clothing.
I'll go to your first example. I never said that you can't enjoy music from other languages, though I have said, and maintain, that you get a lower level of understanding and hence enjoyment than you would if you understood the lyrics. To give an example, though you could easily enjoy the melodies in Jacques Brel's music and the immense amount of passion in his singing, I think I do gain a better appreciation of his music from understanding what he's singing about than I would if I didn't speak a lick of french. I do listen to a lot of different styles of ethnic folk that I do not understand the lyrics of, and though I do enjoy it simply on a musical level, in terms of melody and such, I feel like I would enjoy it more if I understood the lyrics. Now, similar to that, I feel like if you didn't understand the concepts behind the work of a musician like John Cage, from a piece like "4'33", to all his indeterminacy pieces, you wouldn't enjoy it as much, simply because the concept is as much a part of the music as any notes played (or not played as it were).
I'll ignore the coffee allegory, because there is really no input into the coffee that isn't physical. The climate has an effect, the amount of time before harvesting has an effect, but there's no real emotional or intellectual investment in coffee that makes it taste better or worse.
