stop believing in the idea of "fashion" being anything concrete. clothing is multimedia. your body is more versatile than a canvas.

draw inspiration from things that aren't fashion-related. when you want to get ideas for an outfit, don't go to /fa/, go outside. take a walk. look to nature, look to culture, look to the sky, do whatever feels natural and incorporate that into your clothes. whether that be visual (i like waves, so i'll make a skirt that looks like waves), tactile (i like the feeling of wind, so i'll make a fit out of all translucent fabric, or absurd (i like the scent of rain, so i'll put a rainboot on my head)

stop caring about brands and start caring about designers. and pay attention to the runway, not to the shop. you want to learn about designers' philosophy, not their business savvy.

finally, i guess, just learn to not give a fuck what others think about your clothes. if you go into fashion wanting to use it to affect the people around you a certain way, you'll be fucked no matter what you do into copying what's tried and true. again, fashion is an art; seek to express the world on your back. it will not always be attractive, it will not always be charming or employable or even, honestly, appealing. but it will be unique, and (hopefully) honest, which is all art should seek to be.

>Taking a picture of yourself in over 1,000 dollars worth of clothing in order to gain approval from your peers isn't something to be proud of or to strive for

i have never in my entire time on this site seen anyone say that they were doing that. you are just assuming that is what they are doing because you think you know better.

he responded to your comment with hostility because it was a stupid fucking comment and you're on a website with a culture of extreme bluntness.

>As to the pieces of clothing I said I wear: I said what boots I like because I dissed his boots. I wasn't trying to brag about them.

why should i give you the benefit of the doubt? you can jump the gun and say he was vying for approval, but i can't just say that you were trying to brag? fuck that noise. hypocrisy.

>Obviously the guy has more money than I do

possibly he has spent more money on clothes than you. that implies nothing.

get yourself out of the mindset that what you think matters by default. you contributed nothing to this thread. you are just wasting your time trying to make other people feel bad. reevaluate.
