It's not leather, it's sharkskin. That being said, I do understand why it disgusts you; the integration of metal with organic 'skin' is Borgish, if anything. Omega has been doing curved ends for years with their models on leather though. I prefer it if I can get it. Sadly these Leonardo Hirsch straps haven't been made for over a decade at least, and the Omega straps are rudely expensive.

I'm still deciding what to get for this one, as well as the 1861 that is still sitting in fucking customs. I know that Speedies are strap monsters in general, but I don't want a bunch of them, I just want 1 alternate in addition to the bracelet. Thoughts? (no nato...I hate natos as they're very uncomfortable for my skin and they seem to put extra wear on the springbars I have).

You're the Anon with the Ball...I remember. I think your collection is just fine; I always wondered personally what the Citizem flightmaster was like (it had by far the most complex dial layout I'd ever seen on a watch....I love the idea that one can 'do anything' with it...).

What draws you to a GMT? Is it the function alone, or something additional? Are you thinking Rolex or other?

>you're a nice Anon who doesn't yell at me. Thanks for that.

I don't see anything obviously wrong with it. That being said, you mentioned that it was serviced recently (with paperwork to prove it). I'd hazard a guess it wasn't serviced by Omega, because they would have replaced the second hand (for the red tip), the bezel and bezel insert, the crowns, as well as polished up the bracelet, in addition to the interior work.

I'd suggest you make room in your budget for a servicing from your trusted watchmaker or even sending it to Omega. I've had brick-and-mortar owners lie to my face about watches being serviced when they weren't, so just be prepared.

Since Omega keeps on increasing their prices to service, as well as not selling replacement parts to independent watchmakers, I thought it best to service the Mark 40 when it arrived from Japan immediately. Keep it in the back of your mind.

For the plebs.
>Don't buy new at boutique because it loses value as you walk out the door.
>If you want vintage to be valuable, keep it in original condition for resale later on.
>if you want to wear vintage, be prepared to replace parts and thus affect resale.
>my strategy is buy old and in rough shape, service with original maker, get back new watch for fraction of the price of a new watch.

Never paid attention to them. They had cool calculator watches when I was kid, but that's about it.
