No.
This is complete revisionist history. Nobody cared about the AJ1 in 1985. It was not $100. It did not sell out.

The AJ1 has developed a mythos around it due to being the first in the most successful line of athletic shoes ever. But in 85, it was just another shoe. Not until the III in 1988, did anyone give a fuck about Jordan's. The III was also the first basketball shoe to enter the $100 pricepoint (High end New Balance were first of all time).

Think about it, MJ was a rookie in 85. Nobody way clamoring or lining up for a rookie shoe. He didn't even win a championship until 91. He was a relatively popular player, but his career and icon status didn't begin to blast off until he landed the free throw line dunk, winning the 1988 Dunk Contest.

The Jordan 1 was an uninspired, generic 1980s shoe that Nike had sitting on the backburner and ended up giving to MJ as a last ditch effort to get new players under contract. MJ received this shoe so late, he didn't even begin the season wearing it and early models he wore, had no "Air-Jordan" monikers, they just read "Nike". The now infamous "BANNED" black and red model wasn't even a Jordan 1, it was the Nike Air Ship.

The Jordan 1 is a great casual shoe, but the myths, legends and misinformation around it are nothing but revisionist Nike marketing propaganda.
