Do people do this? If they do I would guess it's because they are immature and inexpereinced at deducing what they truly want.

If i buy something expensive it's because I like the design that someone has created and I want to create an aesthetic with the way i dress that i enjoy, rather than just wearing the same thing as everybody else. If what I "sticks out" to some people or impresses others that is incidental.

If you enjoy simple outfits that are tasteful that is absolutely fine and i think that aesthetic can be beautiful. However, you shouldn't try to shoot people down who are in to stuff that's a little more creative.
