Size conversion.

If you want a low without distressing, plenty of places sell them. You could buy white Tabi socks and glue some Vibram sheeting to the bottom.

How about orange tabis?

Oh, and an idea: hem the top with either a leather or rubber strip in an appropriate color. Maybe with a beat up old bike tire?

Leather is easy to justify: most synthetic fibers are made from petroleum, which is going to have to be used for a lot more important stuff than nylon jackets and is a lot less renewable than cattle or kangaroos.

Interesting image: a centrifugal space station that's a factory farm for kangaroos. Or the American Midwest, desolated by climate change, turned into a massive kangaroo ranch.

The costume design was some of the best I've seen in any movie in years, but tonally it doesn't really seem to fit. Different vision of the future.
