I happen to think smoking is effay as fuck, it's charismatic and can really give a nice ambience. Whoever has told you or given you the impression that evidence of smoking as the single most common carcinogen is not absolute without a smear of fucking doubt is an idiot however. Reads like a drop-out that throws around "study" and "controlled" wording without knowing what the fuck they mean. Controlled studies on smoking tobacco as a significant carcinogenic concluded over 70 years ago (Wynder and Graham come to mind) and modern studies are still reporting that no matter the difference in external factors, tobacco smoking across sex and unequivocally in rates presents as a serious carcinogenic.
