I had the same problem.
The baby alpinist simply has a much better texture on the dial and it just wears better overall due to the smaller overall size, the bracelet is surprisingly good. Not presage level but definitely better than then other offerings from Seiko at that price point.
The Alpinist has raised lettering though which is simply amazing. And if you want to use it as a fidget thing, the lower crown is fun to play with. The crown guard also ads to the uniqueness of the look. Overall the Alpinist will remain timeless, but the texture on the b-alpinist dial was what did it for me.
I wear it daily, it's my favorite one.

I can't wear anything else after buying this one.
It's easily my cheapest watch and it made me realize that price doesn't matter that much after all. I am starting to believe that the 3 watch rule is true.
Usually the honeymoon period wears off quickly. Not with this one.
