One one hand, Shepard Fairey is the ultimate vandal. He's one of the most prolific graffiti vandals of all time, with more than a million ups BY HIS OWN HAND. Do you have any idea what that takes?
Streetwear is a natural evolution for it, and speaking as an artist myself I know he looks at every shirt sold as one more 'up', you feel me? The name of the game is fame for the name, and he's taken it higher than anyone ever has, ever.

On the other hand, he's one of the biggest sellouts in history and what he's doing now completely contradicts the ethos of the very work that made it a viable economic option. But whatever. At the the end of the day, if you wear OBEY, you're letting someone tag you, and in my experience it's usually a mark of disrespect. Paying money to wear the tag takes it to a whole new level - it's simply amazing when I think about it.

Whatever, some of it looks interesting, but Graf writers tag unconscious foes and homeless people for kicks. Keep that in mind.

Not in the early 90's. In the 60's and 70's.
Warhol took it. It was called 'Obetrol" back then. In the 1980's a certain drug exec reimagined it as adderall and began a marketing campaign.

You see, they had all these amphetamines stored up, and they had all these labs geared to make more. Huge capital investment, and all of a sudden it's no longer acceptable to use the stuff for weight loss because of a number of socio-cultural developments following the speed era in Haight-Ashbury.
What do you do? Lose your investment? Is it sunk cost, or can you create a new way to market the same chemical?

It's positively genius. And very, very evil.

>if slater were here he'd set everyone straight.

How about you complain less and lead by example? Other people won't always be there to change reality to your liking, you know.

If you don't like what this batch of trips is doing, why don't you start tripping or something and start setting things straight? What's stopping you?
