>It's just all rather silly.
That sounds like the response of a hermetic or gnostic! Do you mean to suggest that the map is not the territory?

Anway, I agree that the hysteria regarding Nazis is overblown. In part. And if you're saying it's overblown because there's a lack of independent thinking which disallows a clear distinction between symbols and their uses and historical existence and therefore greater meaning, I agree with you still.

And pardon me for being pedantic, but I would disagree with your wording here
>the swastika was created for the party ruling the country as opposed to the totenkopf which was just a symbol for certain military branches
especially
>the swastika was created
The swastika, like the totenkopf, predated the Nazi party. I agree that it was modified by designers to fit into a Modernist German context, and probably modified moreso than the death's head. To say it was "created" might be a semantic stretch.
You too could make the argument that the Swastika flew over the heads of Germans who did not support the Nazi party, whereas the Totenkopf was adorned by a branch of the Nazi controlled military which is notorious for their atrocious series of war crimes. Which is to say that the history of direct violence committed is more closely linked in modern history with the Totenkopf than with the Swastika?
Perhaps that argument doesn't stand too well.

Regardless, with all this discussion of symbolism being rather "silly", I think we're providing proof for the provocative power of Neofolk's use of controversial symbolism.

I'm including an industrial band image because the industrial roots of neofolk are often ignored on this board, though Neofolk's history and attitude owe a lot to groups like this.
