Those pants are too short, imho. When walking they will ride up with each stride. You pretty much need to tuck them into the boot at that point.

Cuffing shows a little more boot and your selfedge credentials but a longer looking leg is the best answer. I say go a little longer in length with at least 2 breaks showing and definitely don't cuff until you are indoors with your boots off.

Also, I really love crepe soles but a magic eraser along the sides is good maintenance even as the leather gets all scuffed up.

A Topy brand thin rubber sole usually leaves the couple of inches just forward of the heel bare, in the middle. I've had them as well as beefy Vibram hiking rubber soles stiched on to naked leather soled boots. Even with the thin Topy you'll actually notice a little less flex in the sole when you walk. It stiffens the sole by constricting the previous free flexibility.

Leather soles can be rebuilt and allow your foot to breathe through the sole. Leather will roughen up if given time but I prefer a layer of rubber for better traction, resilience to stones when I hike and to protect my investment.

Timberland Earthkeepers are fine. The soles are very thin though. You'll feel peddles right through them more than even with running shoes. Compared to other boots listed they can't be rebuilt or resoled. Still, they are great for the price.

I live on Vancouver Island and visit the Viberg factory store every so often. Check their regular range of boots for a relatively inexpensive basic version of their premium boots.

My favourites are a pair of White's and 1000 miles than were so beat up but proper restoration they look amazing.
