These dresses are basically laura ashley in the 70's, thrifting is the way to go anon. Pretty much anything pre 2000's is going to be higher quality fabric, I personally seek out vintage fabric to work with cause it's much more solid. Most high fashion is a riff on an already established idea. I haven't ventured much in vintage high fashion but I'm sure you could find what you're looking for.

Absolutely, I was just looking at some of the new dresses on gucci's site which is all about the 70's right now. The wool flannel dress is something I could assemble myself with the right notions, the stitch work is likely impeccable, but a lot of the markup is due to marketing and prestige.
